May MAHC Network Webinar: New CDC Resources for Healthy & Safe Swimming Week May 22 @ 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm Join the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and NACCHO for the upcoming bi-monthly Model Aquatic Health Code (MAHC) Network webinar on May 22nd at 1:00pm EDT. CDC’s Michele Hlavsa will share highlights from a new report on outbreaks associated with treated recreational water venues, and Joe Laco will be giving a preview of upcoming “mini MAHCs” – topic-specific packages of MAHC resources.

Speakers:

Michele Hlavsa was an Epidemic Intelligence Service Officer prior to joining the Healthy Swimming Program and has worked on a number of outbreak investigations of waterborne and foodborne diseases at CDC. She received a BS degree in Nursing from The College of New Jersey, and an MPH from Emory University.

Commander Joe Laco is an active duty service-member with the US Public Health Service and is stationed at the Center for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta, Georgia. Assigned to the National Center for Environmental Health, CDR Laco’s work focuses largely on Recreational Water, Vector Control, Emergency and Outbreak Response, Food Safety, Drinking Water, Wastewater, Safety and PPE, and Hazardous Materials. CDR Laco has over 22 years of experience; he received his Baccalaureate Degree (Biology) from Ohio University in 1995, and a Master’s of Science Degree (Environmental Health) from East Tennessee State University in 2001.
